If you choose a pedigree dog, you’ll be able to get an idea of their natural traits. If you opt to rescue a dog from a dog centre, ask the centre for advice on his background. If you have children in the family, it is vital you get a dog who loves children, or a puppy who can grow up with your family. If you aren’t as agile as you used to be, look for a calm small dog that won’t pull you over when you are exercising him.
As a general guide, larger breeds and working dogs need more exercise than smaller dogs, but all dogs will need regular exercise. There are lots of dog collars and leashes on the market, made in leather, synthetics and nylon fabrics. Choose from a plain black or red dog collar, or a bright pink or baby blue. You will need to measure your dog’s neck so you can purchase the correct size of collar. There are often matching or coordinating sets of dog collars and leashes available.
